Our Purpose

We bring people to Jesus Christ through the St. John Baptist Church family. Disciple them toward spiritual maturity. Equip them for ministry, both in the church and the world, that we may lift the name of Jesus in the sanctuary, and the utmost corners of the Earth.

Our Vision

Enter to Worship. Depart to Serve!

Board of Trustees

The Board also supervises the ways and means of raising funds for ministry, administrative support, and disbursement of Church funds as appropriated by the annual Church budget. The Board meets jointly with the Board of Deacons and makes reports to the Church at regular business meetings to fulfill the mission, ministry, and purpose of God’s Church.

St. John Baptist Church History Rev. Ellsworth Tait, Pastor

Since 1897, St. John Bapitst Church has been a bastion of spiritual dynamism within the Charles City Community. Founded because of the need to have a place of worship within walking distance, this household of faith continues to grow and transform.

Named after its founder and first pastor, Rev. John E. Jones who served 24 years, St. John Baptist Church , though small in number has a ministry with local, national and international implications. We are affiliated with American Baptist Churches of the South, member of the N.A.A.C.P., The Star of the East Baptist Association, and The Baptist General Convention. We actively participate in No Greater Love and The Charles City Clergy Conference.

This church is a purposed-driven congregation focused on five fundamental purposes of the church: Evangelism, Discipleship, Ministry, Fellowship, and Worship. Upon this foundation emulates all of our activities and plans.

The ministries at our church are: Deacon’s Ministry, Trustee Ministry, Men’s Fellowship Ministry, Women’s Fellowship Ministry, Usher’s Ministry, Music Ministry, Scholarship Ministry, Local and Worldwide Ministry, Finance Ministry, and Christian Education Ministry.
